Brown to Coach SA Under 20's

BROWN TO COACH HIS STATE
By Peter Argent
Reigning SANFL reserves premiership coach, South Gawler and Central District’s own Jeff Brown has be honoured as the 2013 state under 20s coach .
The State under 20s side will play against a North Eastern Australian Football League Under 23 side at City Mazda (Richmond) Oval, on Saturday, May 11.
“It is a huge honour to be asked to do the role,” Brown said to the Gawler Sporting Star.
“It is the type of opportunity to embrace, working with a number of the best under 20s talent in the SANFL.
“I’m really looking forward to it and am going to enjoy it.”
Brown, now in his 40s has a rich history both in the Barossa, Light and Gawler (BLG) competition and also at the Ponderosa.
He was a key member of four South Gawler four flags – 1986, 1990, 1992-93 – along with coaching his home club, the Lions and the Freeling Redlegs.
Back in 2003, when the SANFL Bulldogs won the trio of the Under 19, Reserves and League titles, Brown was the underage coach, with his side having a number of BLG young guns, led by a 16-year-old Shannon Hurn who produced an amazing, best on ground performance, from a half back flank.
After a number of years where Brown has engineering the reserves side to preliminary final day, and losing on the penultimate game of the season, Brown’s Central District reserves made the season decider last year.
He enjoyed a senior premiership last October, as the Central District reserves defeated Norwood in a thriller by seven points.
“For me the best was being involved in the coaching staff at the club you barracked for in a league premiers is the pinnacle,” Brown continued.
“Next was the premiership’s as a player for South Gawler.
“An underage best and fairest (under 19s - 1983) and player reserves football at the Bulldogs are personal playing honours I cherish.”
