Central's Under 18's notch up Win

Central District Under 18's side notched up an inspiring win last night (Thursday 4th July) at Playford Alive Oval against West Adelaide.
It was the first win of the season for our Under 18's who have been struggling results wise, being rooted to the bottom of the table for the majority of 2013.
Much has been made of Central's very small metropolitan and country zoning regions with a lack of Junior participation (junior teams) in our local area despite a large amount of overall residents.
Unfortunately with the SANFL's zoning boundaries for Junior Development in South Australian Football, only population numbers, and not 'participation levels' of Junior Football are taken into account. This leaves Centrals with just a handful of Metropolitan Clubs, and just one Country League (Barossa, Light and Gawler) fielding Junior teams in certain age groups. Comparing this to most other SANFL Clubs vast football competitions in their metropolitan and country areas is is like chalk and cheese.
Despite the above, Central's Under 18 Coach (And former League Footballer) Matthew Kreig and his chargers have been working very hard all season and are showing definite improvement as the season wears on.
Despite suffering from a very low percentage after being on the end of some large losses, plus having a number of players eligible for Under 18's currently playing in higher grades (as is Centrals Club policy) the effort and endeavour has certainly been showing all season.
There has been a lot of encouraging talent and some players who certainly look like they will make an impact at higher levels in years to come.
The win last night against Westies was certainly reward for hard work with all spectators in attendance, despite the cold and wet conditions elated with the final result.
The Boys certainly enjoyed signing the Club song in the rooms afterwards.
Final Result:
Central   2-1  5-3  8-4  10-11  (71)
West      2-3  5-6  8-7  9-8    (62)
Goals: Costanzo 5, O’Driscoll 3, Murray 1, Casboult 1
Best: Millar, Foster, O’Driscoll, Murray, Costanzo, Weaver

The win last night against Westies was certainly reward for hard work with all spectators in attendance, despite the cold and wet conditions elated with the final result.

Junior Development Manager Scott Stevens summarised the match "The team boys got off to a solid start being led in the ruck by Giles O’Driscoll (Barossa District) with him getting his hand to the ball and giving the onballers first use". "His physical presence up forward was also a plus with him kicking 3 goals and having his best game for the year".

"Dom Costanzo (Salisbury West) started in defence, due to injuries very early in the game Dom was moved up forward and finished with 5 goals for the game. It was a fantastic team effort with their tackling and pressure on the West Adelaide ball carriers a highlight. Even playing the majority of the game with only 19 player (injuries to Jarrod Traynor (shoulder) & Jackson Harvey (Calf) it was pleasing to see the players run the game out till the end".

Other players to play well on the night (in addition to best players named below) included Alex Jolly (Salisbury), Connor McLean(Kapunda), Lachlan Franz (Nuriootpa), Isaya McKenzie (Willaston)

It was the U18’s Best Team performance for the Year

The Boys certainly enjoyed signing the Club song in the rooms afterwards.
