Gowans Book 'Two of a Kind' available to purchase

TWO OF A KIND
Many SANFL clubs have had those unique players who make a huge impact on their club and the competition. But only Central District can boast a pair of twins of that ilk, in Chris and James Gowans, who came to South Australia in 2000, played in the Bulldogs’ historic first premiership and stayed for a dozen more years, winning a record-equalling nine flags overall.
Now that the identical competitors have retired, it is time to lift the lid on their journey, recounted in print, with the upcoming release of Two of a Kind, the story of Chris and James Gowans, to be launched at their adopted home, Playford Alive Oval, on April 13, prior to the blockbuster night match between the Bulldogs and reigning premier Norwood.
Written by Central District supporters and freelance journalists Robert Laidlaw and Steve Barrett, Two of a Kind will be a must-read for all Bulldog fans, and those from other persuasions, to spark memories and find out what really makes the boys tick.
There is something for everyone in the book, with insights from those who played with and against them, those who loved them and those who hated them but learned to respect them, TV commentators, umpires, coaches, family members, and the twins themselves, who are gifted, entertaining raconteurs.
Through the book, each one of the 13 seasons the twins pulled the boots on for the Bulldogs are covered, chapter by chapter, interwoven with important milestones of their lives, careers and feelings, from their childhood through to their retirement as SANFL players.
Read the full story of what really happened in the aftermath of the ‘king-hit’ in the closing stages of the 2007 grand final against North Adelaide. And how one of the twins ended up in court, where he helped stop a brawl just prior to his hearing!
Then there are the snippets where opposition supporters not only made their feelings known verbally about how they felt about the twins, but on occasion physically, or in the case of one ‘little old lady’ at The Parade, who gave James more than just a spray!
What are the twins favourite moments on the field, and who do they rate as the best opposition player in their time in the SANFL?
Some of the best unknown stories come from family and friends associated with the twins before they came to the Bulldogs.
See some revealing photographs of James and Chris as toddlers, children, at school, in footy teams and as surf lifesaving national champions!
There is only going to be a limited run, so make sure to reserve a copy of Two of a Kind today. The 244-page book will sell for $30. Pre-orders are now being taken, by phoning Kirsty at Central District Football Club on 8255 2555.
