It’s time to clean your Commodore, tidy your Torana and chamois your Sandman – and join the Holden Dream Cruise taking to the streets of northern Adelaide on Sunday, 15 October.
As a thank you to Holden customers, enthusiasts, employees and the people of northern Adelaide, Holden is staging a community celebration of its past, present and future.
The Holden Dream Cruise will be a giant street parade of Holden cars followed by a family fun day with displays, entertainment, food and a show ‘n’ shine competition.
The cruise will be led by the first and last cars built in Australia by Holden: a 1948 48/215 and a 2017 VF Commodore.
Holden is encouraging owners of some of Australia’s most classic and iconic car models to register for the Holden Dream Cruise including FJ, EH, HD, Kingswood, Torana, Monaro, Sandman, Commodore and the Holden Ute.
The Holden Dream Cruise – which is modelled on the biennial Woodward Dream Cruise held in Detroit – will wind its way from the Elizabeth City shopping centre, past Holden’s vehicle operations plant on Philip Highway, Elizabeth, before culminating in a giant family fun day and show ‘n’ shine car event at Central District Football Club’s My Money House Oval, at Elizabeth South.
Owners of vehicle models made or assembled by Holden in Australia will be eligible to register to take part in the Holden Dream Cruise.
“The Holden Dream Cruise is not just for owners of classic Holden cars made in Australia but for the wider community,” said Richard Phillips, Holden Executive Director of Manufacturing.
“We want to hold an event that recognises the large community of people who care about the brand, its manufacturing heritage and its future.
“This includes not only customers and enthusiasts but people for whom employment at Holden has been an important part of their family, in some cases for decades.”
The Holden Dream Cruise will have numerous viewing locations along its 10km route plus the opportunity to get up close to the spectacular cars at the family event.
“We also want to reiterate that the final day of our local manufacturing will be a strictly private event. That last day is for our people – there will be nothing public happening on 20 October.
“The best way to help celebrate Holden the brand and your personal association with it is to join in or come along and line the route of the Holden Dream Cruise – this is the opportunity for Australia to show that pride and support for our people.”
Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mark Bernhard said “the Holden Dream Cruise is about honouring our heritage and paying our respect to it by reinforcing our future”.
“Holden is one of Australia’s most iconic brands. We built the auto industry in this country and Australia grew up with Holden. We’re incredibly proud of that heritage and committed to building a future that honors our past. We may not be building cars locally but the retention of our engineering team, our international design studios and our vehicle testing facility are just a few examples of Holden’s ongoing commitment to Australia and our customers,” Mr Bernhard said.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the turnout, to see what special and restored vehicles take part and talking about all-things Holden with our loyal supporters.”

It’s time to clean your Commodore, tidy your Torana and chamois your Sandman - as the Holden Dream Cruise takes to the streets of Adelaide’ s north on Sunday October 15. In a fitting tribute to the long and successful partnership between Central District Football Club and Holden, the cruise will finish with a family fun day at My Money House Oval.

A thank you to Holden customers, enthusiasts, employees and the people of northern Adelaide, the event will be a community celebration of the iconic carmaker’s past, present and future.

The Holden Dream Cruise is open to owners of vehicles from the very first car Holden built, the 1948 48-215, to the latest SSV Redline Commodore – and the classic in between such as the FJ, EH, HD, Kingswood, Monaro and the Holden Ute.

As car making in Australia comes to a close, the Holden Dream Cruise will serve as a celebration of Holden’s manufacturing achievements, history and its important place in Australian society.

The Dream Cruise will wind its way from Elizabeth City shopping centre, past Holden’s vehicle assembly plant on Philip Highway and back to My Money House Oval for an afternoon of family fun with display, entertainment, food and a show’n’shine competition.

This event will be huge, so spread the word, bring your friends – and come and celebrate an Aussie motoring icon.
