THOMAS, SYMES TO CAPTAIN CENTRAL

By ZAC MILBANK (SANFL)  | Twitter @zacmilbank

Central District has opted to maintain experienced pair Paul Thomas and Brad Symes as co-captains for season 2014. As North Adelaide and South Adelaide follow the Bulldogs in adopting the co-captaincy model this year, Central chief executive Kris Grant admitted the system worked well in the challenging SANFL environment. ‘’It actually works pretty well for us because Paul is a school teacher and Brad has got his own business,’’ Grant said. ‘’In today’s footy at SANFL level, employment is pretty important so to be able to share the workload does assist.’’ Both players boast AFL experience and have strong ties to the club since progressing through the junior ranks at Elizabeth. ‘’They are two blokes who have been there and done it all,’’ Grant said. ‘’They have both played AFL and won best-and-fairests but above all, they are just great characters. Both players definitely lead by example on the footy field.’’ Underneath Thomas and Symes will be joint vice-captains in Trent Goodrem and Kyle Jenner, rounding out the Bulldogs’ four-man leadership group. Central’s announcement leaves just Sturt and Glenelg to confirm their leadership groups for season 2014.
