Under 18's Mid-year Review

While the season to date has been a tough grind in terms of results the focus of what we are trying to achieve and development of our group long term, there has been some real positive steps forward.

Our focus for a period of time now has been to change the mindset in what is required in preparation to move on into senior football .

With this in mind, we have changed or method at training over the past 8 weeks with a huge focus on training at increased intensity for shorter periods and then having increased time in the gym working on strength and weight gain to allow the group to compete with the demands that are required. We are thrilled with the 'buy in' of the group overall with this, and while the progress will take time, long term we think the benefit will be significant.

As I mentioned on field it has been tough work. Throughout games we have had some really positive signs mixed in with periods of drop offs, which at this level are very costly. As with most teams that are striving to develop often the difference between our good football and our worst is significant and just at the moment the ability to find the inbetween is not there. We are working hard to achieve it which will allow us to compete harder for longer.

In great signs for the football club we have are really young group with a large portion of first year u18s and of recent times an introduction of 6 from our u16s team from this year. While our thought process was to introduce some of these kids slowly over the second half of the season they have all exceeded our expectation and have all been great contributors in the past 4 or 5 weeks. They have added great energy, football smarts and understanding. Some of these names to keep an eye on include Brad Pilkington, AAron Nietschke, Jez Mclennan, Jackson Hately and Rhett Montgomerie. Along  with them we also have 4-5 more from the that group training with us and we will look to introduce some more moving forward.

We have seen some great improvement in some other individuals also, Sam Dunn at 206cm has work extremely hard and seen some huge improvement in fitness and an ability to have impact on games. Connor Dodd continues to improve playing some different roles in recent times and we have seen the like of Brad Schiller and Brett Dowse come in and have impact. Harry Elbrow and Jake Billing have been impressive with both having had or close to having some exposure at reserves level. Bailey Zobel. Cooper Dahms, Neil Morgan, Dylan Pilkington, Rhan Humphries and Lachie Dowing are also names to keep an eye out for.

Ryan Falkenberg as a first year u18 has done a great job as the captain leading by example and is certainly a player that has all the attributes to be a long term player for the club.
While the results have hard to come by we are pleased with the improvement we are seeing and the mindset of wanting  to be better and get the most out of every moment is starting to become second nature. With that in mind we have a long way to go but rest assured we as a coaching group and as a club will be doing every thing we can to find the next group of Centrals footballers ready to contribute to on going success.
