Central District Football Club opened another chapter in its colourful history when the ‘Bulldog Ladies’ played their first official SANFLW game, against West Adelaide at Richmond, on Friday night, February 15, 2019.

Led out by inaugural captain Nicola Biagi, the Central team looked confident, especially after recording the first goal, when Abbey Scheer kicked truly from a set shot, 35m out on a tight angle from the old scoreboard pocket, just 1 minutes and 14 seconds into the contest.

The more experienced Westies side then took control, to lead by 10 points at quarter time, and held the Bulldogs goalless through the middle two terms, to lead 5-7 to 1-4 at the final change of ends.

But Central showed plenty of fight in the last quarter, scoring two goals, through Laitiah Huynh (39 seconds into the period) and Chantel Reynolds (6.09) before the final major was kicked by West late in the game.

While West led in most of the statistical categories, the Bulldogs had 68 tackles to 57, with Courtney Jensen leading the way with nine – she also earned a historic notation when she was the first Central player to record a kick in the opening 30 seconds of the game.

Best players on the night for the Bulldogs were Danielle Stewart (15 disposals and eight tackles), Jayme-Lee Sonneman (16 disposals) and Gemma Doughty (six defensive rebounds).

Best: Danielle Stewart, Jayme-Lee Sonneman, Gemma Doughty.
Goals: Abbey Scheer, Laitiah Huynh, Chantel Reynolds.
