Club premiership player & two time Best & Fairest Ian Callinan recovering after suffering a stroke.
The following is a report from Ian Callianan’s wife Lauren in regards to Ian’s Health:-
” Ian has been unwell the last few months having blackouts every so often. He was cleared 6 weeks ago of anything cardio or neuro/brain related – a big relief.
Early Thursday he woke very unwell. He was taken to Calvary A&E as the symptoms were different and more severe than when he’d had the blackouts some weeks earlier.
Ian had further tests and it was confirmed that he had had a stroke.
He was transferred to the Royal to be cared for by the neurological specialists there.
Ian is a very fit, healthy young man with none of the normal risk factors (diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol etc.) so the hospital staff performed many additional tests to find the cause.
The allied health team from the hospital started working with him straight away with physio, speech therapy, fine motor skills and getting him moving.
He is taking things slowly, one day at a time and giving this 100%.
A scan yesterday indicated that a hole in the heart is the likely cause of the stroke, which will require some further treatment soon.
He is home now, still very tired and resting and that’ll continue for a while. He is doing his exercises as per the physio’s advice.
Being at home will give him the time he needs to rest and increase his incidental activity which are both very important.
Ian, myself, Jack, Harry, Grace and our families would like to thank everyone for their love and support, it has been quite overwhelming and very very much appreciated.
His journey to recovery starts now, myself and the kids plan to play a really active role in that recovery.“
Everyone at the Central District Football Club wishes Ian a speedy recovery.
