The Reserves Side headed to City Mazda Stadium to face Woodville-West Torrens in their Semi Final Clash.
The match started very similar to last weeks game as the Bulldogs flew out of the gates to kick a goal inside the first minute through big man Damon “Divots” Robinson, a second goal followed shortly after through Nicholas Lange to give the Dogs the perfect start. But it was the Eagles who took control of the game from their on in, controlling the football and looking the likelier to do damage on the scoreboard despite trailing by five points at the first break.
The second quarter went the same way the first finished, with Eagles statistically dominating all the key areas. The Bulldogs defence was bombarded with repeat inside 50’s, fortunately inaccurate goal kicking (2.5) by the Eagles kept the Dogs right in the contest.
The Dogs were somewhat able to stop the Eagles momentum in the third despite losing the quarter by a straight kick. Centrals only trailing by two goals at three quarter time were in striking distance but they first had to get the game on their terms.
Woodville had multiple chances to ice the game early in the last with the first seven scoring shots of the quarter all being minor scores. Without kicking a goal in the last quarter the 19 point margin at the 22nd minute mark looked like being unreachable. Until Oliver Shaw converted from 50m on the run and Murray Stephenson put a set shot through a minute later to give the Dogs a glimmer of hope. Sadly it wasn’t to be as the clock ran down, the Eagles eventual winners by seven points.
Goals: Lange 3, Robinson 2, Shaw, Stephenson 1.
Best: White, O’Brien, Rigney, Robinson, Shaw, McKenzie.
