After another tough preseason the girls kicked off the 2021 season in fantastic fashion with a 26 point win over the Eagles on Saturday at X Convenience Oval.
The girls came out firing kicking two goals within the first two minutes and controlled the momentum of the game for large parts in the first quarter. It took until the fourth quarter to break away after a trying third term where the Eagles had field position for the most part. The entire defence played a great team game and held the fort, not allowing the Eagles to get close enough to truly threaten. In the end the girls showed just how much they have improved fundamentally, physically and mentally.
The midfield lead by Lauren Smith, Shelby Smith, Caitlen Teague & Karissa Searle showed just how dynamic they can be with a great mix of inside ball winning ability and outside run and skill. Up forward Chantel Reynolds looked dangerous all day ending with three majors, Laitiah Huynh played a great game hitting the scoreboard and Nicola Biagi played one of her best games for the Club in her new forward role. In defence Tess Gerhardy was like a brick wall stopping the Eagles in their tracks supported by the likes of Taryn Wills who keeps getting better with age, Maddy Lane showed of her elite kick, while Shannon Murphy & Demi Sonneman played their role well.
All up it’s a great start to the season and we now turn our attention to Round 2 V Sturt.
Thanks to all the came out to support the girls, they absolutely love seeing you all there.
