SANFLW Round 10 Match Report

Our round 10 clash against the current league leaders in Norwood had even more meaning as going into the game it certainly looked like it was a must win to keep our finals hopes alive.

We started the game pretty well with multiple inside 50’s but once again failed to make them count and when Norwood had their chances they converted kicking 4 goals from 5 entries to our solitary 1 point.

The belief in the group really started to show in the second quarter where we dominated possession inspired by Isabelle Starmer who lifter in the ruck and we managed to hit the scoreboard kicking 2 goals courtesy of Caitlin Wendland and Alicia Butler. We managed to shut down Norwood’s uncontested possession and went in at halftime we trailing by 9 points. The third quarter was the Chloe Scheer show racking up 8 possession and kicking a goal, while Lauren Breguet finished truly and we gain come out on top reducing Norwood’s lead to just 3 points at the final break.  Things continued in the same vein in the last quarter with us peppering the inside 50’s to finally be rewarded with a goal from Katelyn Rosenzweig leaving us with a chance to claim the game with minutes to go but unfortunately we just couldn’t quiet but the ball through the big sticks and fell agonisingly short by 3 points.

We had many great performers on the night including our best on ground Shelby Smith who inspired her team with 9 tackles and 14 possessions. Chloe Scheer played another solid game racking up 13 disposals and a goal. Katelyn Rosenzweig enjoyed more time on the ball accumulating 13 disposals, laying 4 tackles and kicking a goal. Lauren Breguet produced another strong performance with 10 touches, 4 tackles and a goal. Our wingers in Karissa Searle & Caitlen Teague both played solid games while our defense was awarded the J & S quality meats voucher for their outstanding performance as a group.

The crowd said it all with a standing ovation for the effort our girls produced. It was one of our best team performances and one that shows just how far we have come in the last 12 months. I’m not sure if football gods exist but other results have gone our way which amazingly still leaves the door ajar for a finals birth if win our final game an a couple of results to go our way.

Thanks for those who came to the game and supported us we all truly appreciate the support.
