SANFLW Match Report

SANFLW Round 10 Wrap Up

Report from Senior Women’s Coach, Shaun Ribbons.

We entered our final match for 2019 with high spirits, taking on the top of league leaders in Norwood. Norwood showed exactly why they are one of the power house teams of the competition, through their want to win the contest and strong work ethic. We found it hard to match their intensity and ability to win the ball in the contest resulting in a scoreless first half of football.

At the main break we made some structural changes and challenged the girls to win the contested possession, increase their intensity and work rate. The improvement in those areas was clearly noticeable and the result was that we won the quarter on the score board with two majors. Unfortunately we couldn’t maintain that work rate and intensity in the last quarter and Norwood again displayed a far superior want for the contest.

We had some great combatants on the day including our best player on the ground Demi Sonneman who collected 19 disposals and 5 marks. Kimmy Fry was again instrumental with 13 possessions and 8 tackles. Laitiah Huynh showed her speed and ball wining ability with 12 possessions. Jayme-Lee Sonneman battled well in the ruck against multiple talls and collected 12 touches, 7 tackles and 4 clearances. Our Vice Captain, Danielle Stewart, had a game high of 10 Tackles.

The season has been one full of fantastic learning opportunities for our group especially the final 2 games, playing against inaugural SANFLW teams who are very well established in the competition. Our goal from here is to keep improving and work towards become a power house team in the competition.

Thanks to everyone who has supported our first season on the competition, we truly do appreciate it.
