SANFLW Match Report

SANFLW Round 11 Match Wrap Up

Our season’s hopes of playing final’s where hanging on by a thread going into our last minor round game against final’s bound Glenelg. We needed to win and rely on two other results going our way  but unfortunately we again just couldn’t get over the line and grab our opportunities when they presented.

We started the game fairly well with Chloe Scheer having a great first quarter and kicking a goal, supported strongly by Shelby Smith who racked up 5 disposals as we entered the first break down by 7 points. We managed to win the second quarter on the scoreboard with a great goal to Nicola Biagi and great defense from the team. Glenelg broke the game open in the third quarter dominating possession leading to 8 inside 50’s ultimately leading to 2 goals while we couldn’t convert our chances and entered the final quarter with a 17 point deficit. Our final quarters all season have been strong and we knew we could get back into the game if we hit the scoreboard early.

Moving Katelyn Rosenzweig up froward proved to be a master stroke kicking 2 goals and almost tying the game in the final moments. We manage to win the quarter and almost stole a great win but again just fell short to a very good team. Our best players included Chloe Scheer who has a had an amazing impact on the team playing with great spirit and intensity and we thank her dearly for her efforts after another terrific performance at AFLW level. Our Captain Shelby Smith capped of another strong season laying 11 tackles on the day and 12 disposals. Amber James, Lauren Breguet and Caitlen Teague all had an influence on the game racking up 10 touches each. Georgia Madigan again showed her versatility playing an outstanding game in the backline supported by Lauren Smith, Demi Sonneman & Shannon Murphy. Katelyn Rosenzweig had some great moments especially in the final quarter when she kicked 2 majors and got us back with a chance to steal the game.

In the end we had some chances but still need to become a team that can understand what need’s to happen in certain moment’s of the game and respond. All up it probably sum’s up our season one full of opportunities that we didn’t take but certainly a big improvement from the last two seasons. I would like to thank everyone who has ventured to our games and supported the team it is greatly appreciated.

To the coaches support staff and players you are wonderful people who give up so much to time an energy to make this team what it is and I sincerely thank you for your efforts.

Best: Chloe Scheer, Shelby Smith, Georgia Madigan
