Round three presented our group with the opportunity to take on one of the powerhouse teams of the last three season in South Adelaide. The girls started well dominating disposals and ultimately producing multiple forward entries but again finding it difficult to fully capitalize, ending the quarter with one goal and two behinds, taking a five point lead into the second quarter.
The theme continued in the second quarter with plenty of opportunities and we extended the lead to twelve points at the main break. South took their opportunities in the third quarter adding three goals one behind while at our end points continued to be a theme. A late charge to steal the match back unfortunately left us short by five points and the second loss in a row by less than a kick.
Our game plan and effort for large parts was executed well but disappointingly inaccuracy and slight lapses of concentration cost us the points. Caitlen Teague was again instrumental racking up 18 disposals and 8 inside 50’s, Shelby Smith tackled like someone possessed notching up eight tackles and 16 disposals, Chantel Reynolds was lively up forward with 17 disposals and a goal, helped by Nicola Biagi who continues to improve in her forward role while in defence Maddy Lane found plenty of the ball with support from Demi Sonneman who gave us a spark late in the game kicking a goal.
From here the simple answer to turning these opportunities into wins is by continuing finding ways to improve individually and collectively so we fully capitalize when it’s our turn.
