Report from Senior Women’s Coach, Shaun Ribbons.
We entered round 3 against Glenelg with plenty of energy after a positive week on the track and new our opposition would be eager to get their first win on the board. We knew to give ourselves the best chance of winning this game we needed to win the contested ball moments and the midfield battle. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and our opposition completely dominated in this area throughout the first half with the results showing on the scoreboard. Some very direct feedback at halftime and a focus on winning some key areas like contested ball and tackling resulted in our best quarter of football and a level of acceptable performance.
In the end Glenelg won the match on the back of their want to win the ball and tackling pressure. We had some serviceable contributors on the day, Shelby Smith played her usual hardnosed game racking up 14 disposals, Demi Sonneman saw plenty of the ball in defence and Latiah Huynh looked lively up forward winning plenty of the ball with limited opportunity. Other players that are worth a mention include Katelyn Rosenzweig, Georgia Madigan, Shannon Murphy and Taryn wills who all battle hard.
A special mention to our first gamer in Lauren Breguet at just 16 years of age her work rate and want to be a team player was outstanding.
A well needed week off this week to regroup and set our focus on round 4 v Sturt who will be up and about after their first win on the weekend.
