SANFLW Round 3 Wrap Up

Report from Women’s Senior Coach, Shaun Ribbons.

Round 3 saw two more players making their SANFLW League debut for Central District – Alicia Butler and Demi Sonneman.

Leading into Round 3, we placed a lot of focus on getting off to a good start. Our goal was to win the inside 50’s in the first quarter, which we did, resulting in a six point lead at the first break. We managed to defend really well by intercepting a number of the Eagles kicks into their forward half, especially in the second quarter, when they had a number of repeat entries. Our 17 year old “Young Gun” Kimberley Fry, along with the experienced Shannon Solly and Demi Sonneman, lead the way in defence. Our forward line lead by Isabella Wilson, Chantel Reynolds and Katelyn Rosenzweig proved to be a real handful, adding another 3 goals before half time.

In the second half, our midfield really lifted, especially in contested possessions. We were rewarded for sticking some fantastic tackles. This provided a great opportunity for our forwards who added another 3 goals 4 for the third quarter, while we held the Eagles to just 2 points. The Eagles had a surge in the last quarter, but our girls responded and finished the game by kicking the last two goals – making 10 goals 6 for the game.

Our best players included Kimberley Fry, who played on the 2017 All Australian & Premiership Player Sarah Perkins, and managed to keep her to just 2 goals for the game. Isabella Wilson, Chantel Reynolds and Katelyn Rosenzweig kicked 7 goals between them. Our forwards managed to finish the game with a scoring efficiency of 75% which is outstanding. Danielle Stewart was again instrumental in the midfield as was Amy Fisher on the wing.

The result was a fantastic reward for everyone involved – especially the players.

Finally, it’s fantastic to see all the great support from family and supporters at our games. We all really do appreciate it.
