After a lengthy stint without games the team came into round 5 with a great energy and excitement to get back to doing what we all love, playing footy. Our focus going into the game was about being strong in the contest and trying to execute some fast running football. We managed to compete well inside the contest but just lacked balance on the outside which saw Norwood create some overlapping run putting our defense under large amounts of pressure. We again found it hard to get reward on the scoreboard from our hard work throughout the game.
Ultimately our effort was good but we still have large areas to improve to give ourselves the reward for effort. Sarah Allan made her debut for the club and didn’t disappoint. Sarah’s ability to read the ball gave us plenty of rebound of the halfback line making her one of the best players on the ground. Our defense was outstanding under some real duress with Demi Sonneman, Taryn Wills and our Vice Captain Gemma Doughty “1st game back from ACL” holding strong. The midfield had a huge fight on their hands and certainly didn’t shirk any issues, Lauren Smith was excellent around the contest, supported by Alicia Butlers hardnosed approach. Katelyn Rosenzweig gave us a create contest up forward kicking 2 majors and created a number of opportunities. Latiah Huynh was again exceptional providing plenty of run and exciting play in the forward half. Sixteen year old Zoe Perry played well in her debut match providing plenty of run on her wing and having an impact in her first game.
Our effort and want to compete are positives we take from the game and will be important for us moving forward to into next weeks game against South Adelaide at Noarlunga.
Thanks to everyone who came to watch your support in absolutely brilliant……..
