Our round 9 clash against West Adelaide presented us with the opportunity to maintain our position in the final four but unfortunately, we fell short by 12 points.
Our first five minutes looked promising with the girls winning the ball and showing good ball control but was short lived with West lifting and hitting the scoreboard by finding a free player close to goal from our lack of awareness. We did manage to get one back through Lauren Breguet who kicked a nice goal leaving west with a 13-point lead after half time. West continued to get to the ball first and use it well in the second quarter amounting 24 inside 50’s by halftime and holding a 21-point lead. In the third quarter we held our own and kept West goalless through some increased pressure leaving ourselves with some work to do to get back into the contest in the final quarter. Our final quarter was by far our best adding 3 goals and showing a glimpse of what we are capable of but unfortunately leaving our run to late going down by 12-points.
Chloe Scheer had another solid game taking 8 marks a kicking a goal. Shannon Murphy played well in defence then got us back in to the game in the final quarter playing in the midfield. Nicole Mark was solid in defence supported by Demi Sonneman, Gemma Doughty and the tackling machine Georgie Madigan. Karissa Searle accumulated 11 disposals on the wing, while Maddy Lane gave us a spark moving from defence to the wing in the last half.
In the end we didn’t play our best football for major parts of the game while West nailed their fundamentals which proved to be the difference.
This week we have a do or die game against the league leaders in Norwood. Our best is good enough we just need to bring it for four quarters.
Best Players: Chloe Scheer, Shannon Murphy, Nicole Mark, Georgia Madigan, Karissa Searle, Demi Sonneman.
