The Country U15’s took part in an Association game against the Riverland Football League on Saturday the 8th of June at Renmark.
In what were perfect conditions the boys got away to a fantastic start kicking into a slight breeze in the first quarter, the RFL didn’t have an answer for the tall forwards and the defence was rock solid. The boys were playing an exciting brand of football.
The second quarter was again closely fought contest with both sides not making the most of their opportunities with the RFL picking up their pressure around the contests causing the BL&G to make a few ball handling errors.
With nothing too lose in the third quarter going with the wind the RFL threw everything at the BL&G and hit the front during the quarter, the defense were doing their best to repel each attack from the RFL.
In a fantastic last quarter the BL&G hit the ground running, knowing that is was going to be difficult for the RFL kicking into the wind the BL&G were really driving the ball forward whenever they got a chance and using their leg speed through the midfield saw them run out eventual winners by 26 points.
This was the first win by the BL&G since the inception of Association Football for the U15’s four years ago. These games for our Country Development Squad go a long way in helping the players and their pathway into SANFL football and beyond.
