SANFLW Match Report

Women’s Round 6 Match Report

Round 6 presented our group with one of the biggest challenges in SANFLW football, taking on back to back premiers South Adelaide at their home ground in Noarlunga.

As a group we set ourselves the challenge of physically challenging the reigning premiers hoping to expose some weaknesses. To our girls credit they executed the plan well and our brand of hard contested football was well and truly on display resulting in early goals to Rosenzweig & Murphy. Our midfield led the charge and continued to battle hard all day led by the ever courageous Shelby Smith, Alicia Butler & Lauren Smith. The game ebbed and flowed with the ball spending large amounts of time in our attacking area but to south’s credit they defended well and we had trouble capitalizing on the scoreboard. Our defense was strong lead by Demi Sonneman, Nicola Biagi shut out one of south’s most dominant players for most of the game and Maddy Lane played her best game for the Club in defense.

A large number of our opportunities came off the back of Sarah Allen who again impressed spending the majority of the game rucking and covering the ground exceptionally well. Unfortunately we suffered a few injuries within the game which left us working overtime and although we had opportunities late in the game to challenge for the win we just couldn’t convert those opportunities. The girls tried their absolute hearts out leaving nothing on the ground and we started to see more of a contribution from other team members including Amber James who started to show what she is capable of, Zoe Perry looked exciting with her speed, Caitlen Teague found confidence on the wing and Lauren Breguet had patches of brilliant play.

In the end this game was a missed opportunity to get a confidence boosting win but without a doubt we stated to see signs of whats to come in the future.

Thanks again for those who travelled to watch us play and a huge thank you to our Female Football Director Natalie Seaman who volunteered on scoreboard.

Best Players: Sarah Allan, Shelby Smith, Maddy Lane, Lauren Smith, Amber James, Demi Sonneman.
